An INTRODUCTION TO BLOG CARNIVALS

If you are new to the blog carnival scene we offer this very brief explanation of what a blog carnival is.

A blog carnival is an "event" where a host blog accepts links to posts from other bloggers. The host then crafts the submissions into a single post and publishes it on their blog on a predetermined date.

Again, briefly, this provides a number of blogs with the opportunity to gain exposure at one time. Visitors will go to the host blog to view the carnival and be able to click through to links provided by each blogger participating in the carnival.

Some of the benefits an individual blogger can gain from participating in a blog carnival are...
  • Meeting new bloggers who attend the carnival and see their post
  • Having more traffic coming to their blog on the day of the carnival
  • Regularly getting more visits as a result of participating in the carnival
  • Receiving more comments
  • Receiving offers of link exchanges
Remember that this a simplistic explanation of the process and the benefits.

A REVIEW OF THE GONZO BLOG CARNIVAL SERIES

These are the carnivals we've had since January, 2007...

There was extensive promotion of this, the first, carnival on the Blog Shares website. The players simply did not respond. Those who play Blog Shares, it turned out, are interested in playing Blog Shares, not blogging.

The Gonzo B$ Carnival was hosted by For Your Success. There were 7 entries.

Dirty Butter hosted the second carnival at Blog Village News. The Family Carnival was an unqualified success. As a result Blog Village launched its own carnival series. There were 47 entries.

The third carnival was hosted by Kilory_60, the originator of the Gonzo Blog Carnival Series. It was a Gonzo FREE FOR ALL where participants could choose any post they wanted to share. There were 39 entries.

The Free For All was followed-up by our first DOUBLE FEATURE; the fifth and sixth GONZO carnivals. These carnivals were specialized, featuring poetry and photography.

On the same day we had the Gonzo Poetry Slam hosted by Poets Who Blog and the Gonzo Photography Carnival hosted by Points of Light. There were 44 total entries.

The sixth event was called A Gonzo World Carnival. Bloggers from around the world participated in this event { hosted by ...Save.Save.Save... } that had 13 entries.

The Gonzo Education Carnival was our seventh event. There were 18 entries in this carnival that appeared on the blog of an experienced carnival host at Principled Discovery.

Cattails: Adventures of A Very Bad Cat hosted the Gonzo Relationships Carnival, our eighth event, that attracted 19 entries.

There were 14 entries in the Gonzo Meme Carnival, our ninth, hosted by The Lives and Times....

The Friends of Kilroy Carnival, which was the 10th in the series, had 17 entries. Bloggers linked to Kilroy's The Gonzo Papers were invited to patricipate. It was hosted by Queen of Pentacle's Blog.

The first Gonzo Blog Rodeo had 9 entries when it was hosted by Advertising For Success. It was our 11th carnival. Gonzo Blog Rodeo II was our 12th and it was hosted by An Aspiring Romance Writer; there were 10 entries. The theme of the rodeos was blogs, bloggers and blogging.

England Goes GONZO! was the 13th carnival in the series. This carnival, hosted by Diary From England, featured posts related to England. It had 21 entries.

Our first joint venture was carnival number 14. We teamed with Home Turf Media to present Carnival of Cities Goes GONZO! at Kilroy's The Gonzo Papers. This carnival had 24 entries and again included bloggers from across the United States and around the world.

Carnival number 15 was a celebration of Kilroy_60's two-year blogiversary; it was hosted at The Gonzo Papers. The BLOGIVERSARY BASH! had 36 entries.
